About the Artist

Sarah grew up in Santa Cruz, California. She received her BS in Health Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz and a graduate certificate in Science Illustration at California State University, Monterey Bay. In 2013, Sarah entered the MD program at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. Soon after starting her third year of medical school, she took a two-year hiatus to pursue her masters in Medical and Biological Illustration at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Sarah finds the didactic quality of medical illustration invaluable, and entered the field of medical illustration to broaden the applications of this powerful discipline in health care. She is pursuing a hybrid career in medicine and illustration, with hopes to strengthen the collaboration between medical illustration and clinical medicine.

In 2019, Sarah started her 6-year residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at UC Davis, and she continues to infuse her medical illustration background into her surgical specialty.

She became a Board Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) in 2020.

When she has spare time, Sarah enjoys traveling, painting her nails, cardio kickboxing, and martial arts. She is enamored with the color red, and can be seen in the clinic sporting her bright red stethoscope.
